1. QUESTION:
Do I need to wade when I go river fishing with Tweed Guide?
1. ANSWER:
A Much of the fun and often the chance of best fish is assisted by wading but you can fish from the bank. We select easy wading conditions for all beginners Tweed Guide provides waders in your size, wading staff and instruction

2. QUESTION:
Will I be fishing from a boat?
2. ANSWER:
In some cases for salmon fishing part of your fishing can be from a boat. This is always offered on a voluntary basis.

3. QUESTION:
Will I be cold ?
3. ANSWER:
Tweed Guide provides neoprene chest waders , a wading jacket and sometimes hat and gloves and even neoprene socks if necessary. In general wear a number of layers and you will not be cold and you can remove layers if you are too hot

4. QUESTION:
What should I wear?
4. ANSWER:
Wear layers of loose fitting clothes. Jeans are a poor choice as they encourage sweating and transfer moisture rather than “ breathing”. Dampness can often be felt at the end of a fishing session on the surface of your clothes if they do not breathe but you will not be wet

5. QUESTION:
What is the best age for children to start fly fishing?
5. ANSWER:
Every child is different but around 8 seems a great age to start. We have had success with children as young as 6 but we are always aware of safety and concentration spans. To teach basic casting 5 is the youngest I have personally taught with any success but we are always game to try to help any enthusiast and we would not want the youngest member of a family to felt “ left out”.

6. QUESTION:
Will I always catch fish with Tweed Guide?
6. ANSWER:
The answer has to be no as all the fish are wild and unstocked. If fishing for salmon there will be days when you do not catch but if conditions are right your potential to land a salmon improves dramatically If fishing for trout and grayling if fishing May to September we expect everyone to catch. There will be the odd blank mainly due to dirty high water conditions, personally in 2009 I had no blank sessions with clients but I had in 2008

7. QUESTION:
Can I kill and eat what I catch?
7. ANSWER:
We practice catch and release, always for small fish of all kinds , usually for spring salmon and always for kelts and salmon which are close to spawning. We can organise smoking of legitimately caught and kept salmon.

8. QUESTION:
Can I use my own gear?
8. ANSWER:
Of course. We offer no discount if you use your own gear as we ensure that you have the right rod line reel waders etc and as long as we are not many miles from civilisation if your own waders leak , and they will eventually, we will supply waders, same if reel jams or whatever the issue Many fishers arrive with rods which are too heavy ( wt 4-5 for trout grayling ) or too light ( wt 9-11 is ideal for salmon)

9. QUESTION:
Do Tweed Guide rent out gear?
9. ANSWER:
All our gear is the best we can buy and usually up to one year old. That means we will only add rental of gear at minimal cost if you have booked a day or half day with a guide. Even with that instruction rods and other gear gets broken … but that is our problem , just relax with Tweed Guide

10. QUESTION:
Where do Tweed Guide operate?
10. ANSWER:
From Peebles 30 miles south of Edinburgh to Berwick Upon Tweed just into Northumberland in the north of England We can also organise fishing throughout England and Wales and we have fabulous dry fly fishing in Poland

11. QUESTION:
Do Tweed Guide sell rods etc?
11. ANSWER:
In general no. We have some older equipment from a range of stockists that we may sell off from time to time but that is not our real business. We can refer you to recognised stockists and usually you will be given a discount as a Tweed Guide customer. In the meantime you will have fished with current equipment with us in real river conditions and will then know what suits you beston an optional basis . If you are from outwith UK we can usually provide an " at home " stocist in for example USA.
